The project aims to provide the opportunity of integrated participation from the school communities to explore with professionals in making creative and sensitive design proposals to enhance individual neighbourhood environment to suit the needs and aspirations of each individual district through an interactive, participatory process. With the support from secondary/ primary school principals, teachers and parents, the project helps stimulate students to appreciate their local district built environment and architecture , and understand that they can have a positive impact on their own environment through the creative designs and commitment they make. The whole process will be stimulating and serve as exciting “design laboratory” for the students to develop values in taking on responsibility to the community and civic awareness.
48 schools and organizations have participated in the Project during the year 2003-2004. Participants have studied their communities and are working on creative proposals to improve the community environment. Part of the participating schools and organizations have presented to District Councilors their works at the third workshops, which will be exhibited in September 2004.
