“Caring for Our School Environment” is a two–year non-profitmaking educational project, supported by the Quality Education Fund, and is organized by the Centre of Architectural Research for Education, Elderly, Environment and Excellence Ltd. (CARE) in collaboration with Education Department, Hong Kong Subsidized Secondary Schools Council, Subsidized Primary Schools Council, Hong Kong Special Schools Council, Friends of the Earth and the Hong Kong Institute of Architects. The project aims to provide an opportunity of integrated participation from the school communities to explore with professionals in making creative and sensitive design proposals to enhance individual school campus environment to suit the needs and aspirations of each participating school through an interactive and participatory process.
During 2001-2003, over 3,000 “School Environment Student Ambassadors” from sixty-five schools participated in workshops with their teachers and parents, and have created creative design proposals for their school environment. Works and proposals from all participating schools were exhibited in autumn 2002 and summer 2003 respectively, documented in two books and distributed to all schools in Hong Kong, collaborating bodies, educational organizations, government departments, and other related institutions both locally and overseas. |
